Pumpkin Patch Outing at Irvine Park
The Irvine ranch used to cover about 1/3 of orange county. We visited Irvine Park which was donated about 100 years ago to the county. In October, they have a Pumpkin/Halloween celebration and we went to see it. The decorations and pumpkins were very colorful and we had fun riding the train and visiting the zoo. Hunter and Gwen's hair is very close to the color of pumpkins. Hunter is 3 1/2 feet tall and Gwen is almost 3 feet tall. Hunter had his first date on a John Deere quad. Hunter shows how small he is compared to the wing span of a bald eagle.

Malibu camping and Solvang
Early in the month Steve's parents came for dinner. We then went to Utah for Marianne's father's 70th birthday party at Fat Jacks in Payson. The next weekend we went tent camping near Malibu. On the way we took a picture of the Space Shuttle Endeavor flying into Southern California and also a picture of a huge flag display at Pepperdine university.
The campsite was near the Leo Carrillo beach, so that we could walk to it. We roasted hotdogs for dinner. Somehow in the on-line reservation process we payed for a campsite for the disabled, and found out that we had no campsite when we arrived since we did not qualify as being disabled. They would not give us a refund or another campsite in exchange, so we decided pay for a second campsite so that we could stay the night. We also learned that blowup beds are now sold with a battery pump which needs to be charged before your trip. In the past, bed pumps could be plugged directly into a power plug. Since Steve had not opened our new bed yet, the pump was not charged and we would have needed to sleep on the ground if our neighbor had not loaned us his old style pump.
The next morning we drove to Solvang (Danish village) and ate lunch at the Greenhouse Cafe. On the way home we drove by the old Mission in Santa Barbara.
